Himalaya Bakery has been supplying healthy organic and bio-dynamic sour dough bread with vegetarian foods for 20 years. My first experience of their breads was around 18 years ago when I stayed in the region on weekends. I would buy the sourdough rolls to toast for breakfast on cold Daylesford mornings.

Daylesford & Hepburn Springs have a reputation for being expensive. Not actually true as the full spectrum of pricing applies to the region. If you want to spend a lot the towns will accommodate but if you only want to spend a little the town can accommodate you as well.

If you are visiting the region then you will have probably heard of the Ballarat Begonia Festival held every year on the Labor Day weekend in March at Ballarat. It is a celebration of the Begonias in blossom at this time of year. What most people don’t know is that Daylesford has its own display of blooming Begonias as well.

The Spa Capital of Australia?

Daylesford and Hepburn Springs are reputed to have more massage therapists per capita than anywhere in Australia.
If you visit the area you will believe it.
Day Spas are popping up like mushrooms and if you can't find the type of massage or spa you want here, it probably doesn't exist.

Hepburn Springs has been popular for decades and decades
(originally an escape for the wealthy of Melbourne which can be seen in many of the older buildings)
but it is the modern stressed filled lifestyle that has resurrected such interest in this region.

The original was the Hepburn Spa Complex (yes in Hepburn Springs).
Known as the Bathhouse it has been operating since 1895 when it had only two baths to soak in.
It is still in operation but now has many private baths, a public swimming area, salt water pool and every therapy you can imagine.
They still use mineral water from their own private source.
